BCU Exhibition

For our first exhibition at Birmingham City University we wanted to show where Asian Youth Culture was at present. For this we collected oral histories and capture a number of different individuals and in places that young Asian people frequented.  These ranged from gyms, to clubs and places of work. Young people were asked about their background and that of their families and what being Asian meant to them.

It was also the debut of our cinema space, which showed a number of archive films and a short film from Dazed and Confused magazine, which looked at  British Asian Sound systems.

As well as this we were able to show some archive from Oriental Star Agencies, one of the oldest Asian record labels in the UK, and numerous examples of objects and text from people’s archive.
